Safe Driving When Moving

Safe driving practices when driving an unfamiliar vehicle.

If you have never driven a moving truck, you may want to hire a driver when relocating, especially if you will be move far away from your current residence. Moving trucks are difficult to maneuver and if you are driving on highways, you will have to travel at speeds you may not be comfortable with.

If you have driven a moving truck or other type of large truck before, you still need to be cautious. When picking up the truck, take a few minutes to learn where different functions are located. Make sure you position mirrors correctly and that you know how to make wide turns and back in a driveway if you have to. Keep in mind that if you have to drive more than ten hours, you should plan on spending the night in a motel. This will ensure that you are rested and alert when driving.

I was moving from Milwaukee to Denver so I rented a truck. What a disaster. My relocation did not go according to plan as I had difficulty driving the truck. I wasn’t that big but I had no experience driving anything bigger that a Civic. My move took longer than planned. The relocation would have went better had I just hired a moving van to haul my stuff.
